Summer - CDs

Dear friends of Latin American music and culture!

This year, summer is full of surprises! There are so many new releases entering our warehouse. Each time we unwrap the cartons so that we can listen to the new CDs for the first time, it is like Christmas, even with 30°C outside. There are two new releases we would like to present to you:

Los Soneros del Barrio

The CD “Remembranzas” by Los Soneros del Barrio was released in 2002. Immediately, it became a favourite of the Latin fans. Music specialists as well as dancers were thrilled by the stunning sound from New York. Salsa dura 70s style, when salsa lived its Golden Era. Finally, we can present the new release, which is significantly called “Siguiendo la Tradición”. The musicians stay faithful to their style and to the great salsa New York style. Frankie Vázquez, Sonny Bravo, Nelson González, Ricky González, George Delgado and many other excellent musicians interpret titles by for example Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez, Héctor Lavoe, Tommy Olivencia, Larry Harlow und Willie Colón. This is the top album of this summer! Just try:

Varios: Salsa around the world

The New Yorker Label Putumayo has been known for years now for their superb world music compilations. Their productions have presented music styles to us, which are hard to get normally. Their latest release is a very special treat. It is completely dedicated to the phenomenon salsa. We go on a world trip and we are surprised by, amused by and above all thrilled by the different bands and their interpretations of salsa. We set off in Scotland and then visit Italy, Ciracao, Greece, Senegal, Marocco, India, Japan, Cameroon, Finland and Haiti. This is when it becomes very clear to us, that “the songs on Salsa around the World are a testament to the global appeal of Latin music. Artists from every corner of the world have been influenced by the intoxicating rhythms and rich melodies of a sound that originated in the Caribbean and has been refined by Latinos in New York, Miami, Havana and San Juan.” The booklet gives us many more interesting information on the bands. This journey is very entertaining indeed and it is very inexpensive. Don’t miss out on it:
