The origin of bachata can be found in the beginning of the 1920s. The first bachateros created this style as a unique form which is a bit faster than the bolero. The lyrics are similar to the bolero texts, but the sound is more nasal and there are exclamations of pain and bitterness (amargura). This gave bachata the name "Música del Amargue".
