„Tango for films“

Remastered historical tango recordings for film productions

I have been involved with tango music for more than 30 years. During this time, more than 6,000 historical recordings have been released on my own labels. These are sound-restored classics that are in the public domain. In some recordings, crackling and noise have been reduced, while others have been edited by specialists in hours of studio work according to various criteria. For example, there is a series in which the recordings have been adjusted to the speed at which this music was actually danced 100 years ago.

More than 800 recordings are free of copyright. These have all undergone a careful review process and have been verified as copyright-free by GEMA and/or SADAIC. This means:

There are more than 800 classic tango recordings available for film productions, for which I can grant rights on a one-stop basis after checking the parameters for the desired territory.

If you are looking for more modern recordings, you can also find what you are looking for in my music publisher. “Ediciones La Palmera” has more than 900 works, most of which can be attributed to tango. For example, there is a hip-hop producer from New York who has composed tango for a change. There are many connections between tango and jazz or Brazilian music. Sync rights can also be granted on a one-stop basis for more than 300 of the publishing house's releases.

Of course, rights to the master can also be granted for thousands of tango recordings that are not copyright-free. The catalog contains just about everything. Have you heard a tango somewhere and would like to license it? Feel free to ask if it is in our catalog!

Tango Music Supervisor

Matthias1 200x300

What could be more natural than providing expert support to filmmakers or clarifying rights? Over the past 30 years, I have acquired in-depth expertise in the field of tango. This is often not so easy, especially with classical recordings. There are associated terms of protection to consider, editors are sometimes not correctly named, some authors have forgotten to register their own works, and others have never been members of a collecting society. The legal situation for worldwide licensing is complex, as not all countries have signed the Berne Convention and there are many special regulations regarding the terms of protection for master tapes.

I have been dealing with this subject for many years and am happy to pass on my knowledge as a music supervisor specializing in tango.
