Bereits die letzte CD "Murga Argentina" von Cáceres kam gut beim Publikum an (Rezension bei tangokultur.info). Mit "Utopia" legen die Musiker um den 71jährigen Juan Carlos Cáceres nun eine CD nach, die noch überzeugender ist.
14 Titel sind auf "Utopia", einem genreübergreifenden Tango-Album, versammelt. Gleich das erste Stück "Aquel Perfume (Agua Florida)" zeigt den multikulturellen Ansatz in Form einer Candombe. Die Stimme von Cáceres, die an Paolo Conte erinnert, umgarnt den Hörer und zieht ihn hinein in eine musikalische Welt zwischen Buenos Aires, Paris, dem afrikanischen Kontinent und New Orleans, wo wir uns beim zweiten Titel "Antigua" wiederfinden. Hier hören wir den typischen Rhythm and Blues-Sound und erkennen die Nähe zu Dr. John.
Es schließt sich "Cuesta Arriba" an, ein Titel, der sehr nah dran ist an Buenos Aires - und am Tango. Die Emotionen werden hier gekonnt transportiert. Piano, Streicher, Bläser und die Percussion ergänzen sich zu melancholischer Eintracht, ohne in Depressionen zu verfallen.
"Caminando", ein ruhiges und verträumtes Stück, lässt die Nähe zu europäischen Chansons erkennen.
"Utopia" ist abwechslungsreich und sicher ein Highlight unter den Neuerscheinungen. Zudem ist auch das aufklappbare CD-Cover sehr originell und detailverliebt gestaltet. Die Musik mit Elementen aus Tango, Jazz, der brasilianischen Murga, der kubanischen Habanera und nicht zuletzt aus afrikanischen Einflüssen wird mit einer Leichtigkeit zelebriert, die einfach nur Spaß macht.
